On my third day in Kyoto, I took the Japan Rail down south to the city of Osaka for the Grand Sum tournament. I am hooked already. Some of these guys are just massive, weighing 500 pounds or more. The tournaments are held 6 times a year and last 15 days each. After each tournament a Rishiki(sumo wrestler) is either promoted or demoted in rank depnding on his performance at the tournament. Needless to say, they are taken very seriously. It was day 8 of the tournament and I got to see the only undefeated Rishiki left get beat in a great match.
